Southern Charm

Savannah / Hilton Head - December 2019

I love going to southern states - the (sea)food, the hospitality, the charm. Although I’m from the south, and I love visiting, I definitely don’t plan on moving there anytime soon.

I flew in to Savannah on Friday, December 6, 2019 through Monday, December 9th. I grabbed a rental car ($75 for the weekend!) and headed to my Air B&B. I am a huge fan of Air B&B and always look for unique stays. Since it is winter in Colorado, I was craving the beach. Tybee Island, GA is 30 minutes from Savannah. It a quick drive, but not quick in speed - the cops are waiting for you to go 1mph over the speed limit. I stayed at a cute little beach bungalow (click here for the listing) 2 blocks from the beach. Tybee Beach has a large beach with porch swings and prime sunsets!

I spent majority of Saturday walking around Savannah, taking in the south plantation style homes, walking tours of the various parks and squares, eating and drinking my weight in southern goodness - Thank you Ordinary Pub!! - and learning about the old history of Savannah.

Sunday, I took a drive up to Hilton Head, South Carolina, an easy 45 minute drive from Savannah. I got to walk the beach, eat right on the water at The Salty Dog Cafe and explore the lighthouse at Harbour Town Marina. Such a beautiful area.

On Monday, I went to Wormsloe Plantation, a historic site that is part of Georgia State Parks. Imagine a long dirt road lined with old Oak trees. Reminds me of the movies Forrest Gump or The Notebook. There is a museum with artifacts unearthed on the grounds of Wormsloe, hiking trails that lead you to the marsh or the Colonial Life area from the early 1700s. There is so much history and beauty here!
